Since the beginning of his professional career Pavle Heidler has been performing, reflecting and/or studying, writing, and teaching; always considering his engagements as opportunities to continue working on his research into the notion of performativity. His preferred method of engagement is collaboration, which – it needs to be defined – instead of “flat non-hierarchies”, practices “power relations as socially-sensitive fluid forms”. He is interested in investing in long-term relationships, and amongst other things thinks disagreement ought to be considered a form of agreement.
Pavle Heidler graduated from Performing Arts Research and Training Studios in 2012, and has received his MFA degree from Dans och Cirkushögskolan in 2015. Most recently he has been collaborating with Cristina Caprioli and Co. (CCAP), Silvia Marchig (KIK Melone) and Sonja Pregrad, and TOGETHER ALONE. TOGETHER ALONE is the volatile and developing agreement which defines the relationship between Pavle Heidler, Ilse Ghekiere, Mira Mutka, Samuel Draper, Manon Santkin, Eleanor Campbell, Matilda Lidberg, Roos van Berkel; and others.
WHAT DOES THE SITE RESIDENCY ENABLE YOU TO DO?
I imagine the residency to be the opportunity to continue (investing in, make more robust) those parts of my research that materialise through reflective activities and writing. As far as more ambiguous expectations go, I am hoping this residency will enable me to take some of the work that I do on my own more seriously than I did before. More sincerely, then, if not seriously.
WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON RIGHT AT THIS MOMENT?
I am dreaming of materialising, in writing, some of the outcomes of my research that have been previously materialised in other mediums; in performing, in teaching, and in conversing. I am dreaming of methodologies of writing and the specificities of language that will have to be employed to note down thoughts that haven’t themselves originated in language, but that have instead originated in physical experience. >>> I am working on a series of interviews in which I am interviewing local dance artists. My main interest here is to learn more about under which conditions different artists learn to valorise their thinking, and I’m learning how to translate their spoken language into written language without compromise… >>> I am performing a lot, co-editing a website, and reading sci-fi and lots on the science of perception.
HOW WOULD YOU LIKE TO FURTHER DEVELOP DURING YOUR RESIDENCY AT SITE?
In the coming year I would like to become better equipped in my understanding of how to organise myself in relation to the many interests I have – some of which I see as artistic research or creative work, some of which I see as socially conscious and engaged work, some of which I see as gender research; and all of which I see as feeding my overall research into the workings of “performativity in real life”.
The residency aims to enable artistic and organizational development, through free access to office space and studio time as well as counselling. Please contact Anne-Sofie Ericsson for more information.
