Majula Drammeh
Dancer, performer, performance maker and dramaturg. I often collaborate with other artists from different artistic fields such as visual arts, music and theatre. My main focus is on interactive, participatory, immersive work within the fields of dance and performance. In my work, I am interested in giving space for both participants and performers to deal with their own bodily identity and the political baggage it carries.
WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON RIGHT AT THIS MOMENT?
I am currently working as dramaturg and dancer for a new piece named Statues or to stand, a work that champions diversity and the racial discourse about bodies of colour that live in a predominantly white environment, by questioning the traditional ideas of statue making. Premiering spring 2024.
Along side I am doing research/ developing content for a new participatory work in collaboration with Shaya Khalil, looking at the difference in the spiritual reasons and practices in west in relation our roots in Gambia and Sudan and how we can communicate them in performance.
HOW WOULD YOU LIKE TO FURTHER DEVELOP DURING YOUR RESIDENCY AT SITE?
I want to use my time at SITE to develop a persistency in my work, looking at the essence in my work, my potential to develop and to connect my work internationally.
Gain some knowledge on how work can be made accessible to tour from a technical aspect.
WHAT DOES THE SITE RESIDENCY ENABLE YOU TO DO?
A space for working in an safe and open environment. A place to be in direct connection to office as well as studios and other artists and people of production knowledge. A flexibel place for my artistry to be explored in.
