”I am a contemporary circus artist. The last 20 years my journey in the circus world has taken me across countries, different roles, and collaborations with various artists and companies such as the London-based female acrobatic company Mimbre.

After spending nine years as part of a female acrobatic duo, in 2013 I started Circus By Me. Circus By Me has produced and participated in externally funded performances and has received funding support from regional and national bodies including the Swedish Arts Grants Committee (2013, 2021). The company has received recognition for the innovative and interdisciplinary character of its shows, such as DjeliyaDet får bära eller brista, and Cykelcirkus.

I am interested in creating meaningful and engaging performances that blend acrobatics, choreography, and storytelling. Through my work I wish to explore themes such as connection, community, and the human experience. Moving forward, I aim to focus more on choreography and directing, bringing more depth and professionalism to my projects.”

What does the SITE residency enable you to do?
– The SITE residency gives me a supportive environment, a workspace, and a community of creative professionals to help advance my artistic projects. Moreover, it allows me to focus on my research, expanding my artistic depth, networking, and collaboration opportunities. I just moved to the region of Stockholm from Skåne and aim to explore the space of choreography and directing.

What are you working on right now?
– Currently, I am focusing on several projects, for example;
⁃    Disconnect – Reconnect A circus choreographical research project with two acrobats and a juggler, exploring the concept of connection. The goal is to turn this research into a stage performance for a youth audience.
⁃    Choreography for Churches: Collaborating with French colleagues to create a performing arts piece involving tightrope walking, acrobatics, and choral singing, designed for church spaces and exploring themes of loneliness versus community.
⁃    The Aging Body – Part 2: Creating a performance art experience and exhibition based on research about the aging acrobat body together with acrobat Signe Veinholt and photographer Alex Hinchcliffe to integrate photos, films, and projections.

At the same time I’m touring and performing the family show Cykelcirkus and the show SE Opp! (a performance for the youngest audience 0 – 5 years.)

How would you like to further develop during your residency at SITE?
1. Enhance Artistic Focus: Spend more time on my artistic projects and less on administrative tasks.
2. Expand Collaborative Networks: Connect with other artists and professionals in Stockholm to facilitate new collaborations and creative exchanges.
3. Deepen Choreographic and Directorial Skills: This year, I’m also taking a course in circus direction at the Stockholm University of the Arts, and at SITE I can focus on refining these skills through practice and experimentation within my own projects.
