Koreograferna Fanni Ijäs och Frédéric Gies blev ihopparade som adept och mentor i SITE:s och MARC:s gemensamma residens för en koreograf med konstnärlig mentor 2021. Under 2022 har de arbetat vidare, tillsammans och var för sig, i SITE:s första produktionsresidens för dans. Nu har de skapat varsitt solo och den 2 juni blir det premiär på SITE i Farsta för en delad kväll med två helt nya verk!
Frédéric Gies presenterar det nya verket Shadowboxing, där han bland annat tillämpar sin egen praktik ”Technosomatics”, som förenar somatiska utforskanden och klubbdans. Technomusik ett centralt inslag i Gies’ verk. Genom dansen och hur den vävs samman med musiken tar olika kroppar och bilder form. Många av Gies’ senaste verk refererar till klubbar och raves, i själva dansen eller i den kollektiva upplevelsen som han bjuder in åskådarna till.
Frédéric Gies:
– Since 2014 and my encounter with the techno dj and producer Fiedel, techno music is a central element in my pieces. Many of of my latest works reference clubs and raves, in the dance itself or in the collective experience to which I invite the spectators. During these years, I have also developed a practices called Technosomatics, which brings together somatic explorations and club dancing. In some of my pieces, I have worked on approaching club dancing in a formal and compositional way.
– Shadowboxing takes club dance as a vast field of movement and poetic experimentation and states that this form of dance is way more than just dancing around. Through the dance and the way it is interwoven with the music, various bodies and images take shape. My body becomes the channel for making other characters, creatures and entities temporarily inhabit the dance floor.
